About Us & How You Can Help
The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free.
~ Jesus Christ in Luke 4:18

Most of us who have been believers for a while recognize the above statement as the decree from the book of Isaiah Jesus used this to announce his public ministry, and few could argue the need for these things. Indeed, after just a few seconds of watching the news we can see that this ministry that Jesus came for is still in need today. People are hurting out there, and it seems the world has gone crazy. There has never been a greater need for the physical and emotional healing ministry of Jesus Christ.

Proverbs 19:22 says, “what every man desires is unfailing love,” and I know that God is the only one whose love never fails. Therefore, I translate that verse to mean that what all of us need is to know the unfailing love of God. That, in a nutshell, is our mission at Caring Counseling Ministries. We show and teach that love to the downtrodden, addicted, depressed, anxious, mentally ill, grief stricken, and at times sin-sick members of our community. We are a counseling agency, but personally I see that as a conduit to meet a greater need in our region, and that is the need for hope, love and grace.

People desperately need hope, to know they are valuable, and that their lives matter, regardless the mess it may be in. Our worth and value was set by what God was willing to pay for us, and He gave His only Son as our ransom because He thought we were worth it. Where we have been and what we have done is irrelevant, as our value has already been established. However, as people begin to understand their worth and value, and the love that God has for them, their lives and emotional landscapes change.

If neither you nor your loved ones have ever suffered from a mental health disorder, consider yourselves blessed. The National Institute of Mental Health says as many as 1 in every 5 adults over the age of 18 are suffering from a diagnosable mental disorder in any given year. Furthermore, childhood mental health problems and behavioral disorders have skyrocketed (and yes, we have a child therapist on staff!). We can no longer afford to stick our heads in the sand and think that this does not affect us. People need help, for everything from the aforementioned mental health issues to marriage counseling and family issues. Sadly, with budget cutbacks and a spiraling local economy, services are in short supply. Moreover, affordable services are all but non-existent, except for Caring Counseling Ministries.

Kent Mattox founded CCM nearly 30 years ago with the goal of making such services not only Christ centered, but also affordable to all, which we also consider Godly. After all, if we priced ourselves in a way that only those with good jobs and insurance could afford services, then we are overlooking the needs of the poor. And meeting the needs of the ‘least of these’ is something Jesus was big on last time I checked. For that reason we have a sliding fee scale that tailors the fee to the individual need. We also tailor our counseling approach to each persons individual need. No one ever feels like a number at our agency, and we do not rush people out because they can’t pay as much, or at all. Love is patient and kind and is not self-seeking (1 Corinthians 13). Love also never fails, which is why the agency has been in operation all these years under what society would consider a failing business model. God has been faithful.

If you are interested in giving to this ministry we would not only be eternally grateful, but your gifts would also be tax deductible, as we are a not-for-profit. We use these donations to offset that sliding fee scale. That helps pay our staff. We also have future planning going on! We have outgrown the building we are in and need to move, but we are praying to find a new building that will be large enough to allow us to open a small crisis center and drug treatment program. We feel it is important that people have a Christ centered option to care for them during their times of greatest need.
