I love the beauty of nature! God’s creations are more incredible than what artists or scientists can make. I’ve always been a bird lover, but now I’m obsessed with hummingbirds. Their tiny wings and bright colors are absolutely amazing!
This year, Nathan placed a hummingbird feeder on my front porch, just a few feet from where I enjoy my morning prayers. With the flowers struggling in the heat, the feeder has become a hotspot for these tiny birds. I love watching them zip around like little fighter pilots competing for food. One strong female fiercely defends her spot, chasing off others, only for even more to swoop in for a drink. It’s as comical as it is beautiful.
I love watching hummingbirds at my feeder, which provides them with nourishment during their migration. These remarkable birds can fly up to 500 miles a day and even make a non-stop 15-hour flight over the Gulf of Mexico! Their abilities rival those of human athletes. Each spring, they return to the same feeders, so I look forward to welcoming my tiny friends back next year. Who but God could create something so extraordinary?
I’m writing about hummingbirds because they exemplify the essence of overcoming challenges. Imagine this: a tiny bird, only four inches long, flapping its wings 80 times per second to fly for 15 hours across the Gulf of Mexico. It seems impossible, yet hummingbirds accomplish this feat twice a year! This serves as a powerful reminder that no obstacle is too great to overcome.
Every day, I encounter people who feel defeated by life. They confide in me about their struggles and the obstacles standing in their way, and it truly pains me to hear their stories. I understand the longing to just give up, to retreat under the covers and shut out the world. But consider this: if God can create a hummingbird with such incredible resilience, just think of the immense, untapped potential lying within each of us. We are capable of so much more than we realize.
The key difference between hummingbirds and us is that they don’t overthink. They don’t let their imaginations spiral into scenarios of exhaustion or failure, like the idea of plummeting into the Gulf. They simply fly. Meanwhile, we often dwell on the past and fear the future, allowing ourselves to feel defeated before we even begin our journey. Let me be clear: we don’t inherently suck at life; we suck at our thought-life! And, as the Bible makes clear, what’s inside us sets the course for our life.
God has gifted hummingbirds with tiny wings and even smaller brains, yet they perform extraordinary feats every day. Isn’t it astonishing to think that these delicate creatures thrive in ways we often overlook? As the pinnacle of His creation, we possess an immense potential for greatness that surpasses imagination and certainly exceeds that of a hummingbird.
Let’s embrace our unique capabilities and shed the limiting beliefs that hold us back. Remember, any thought that tells you, “You can’t do it” or “You’re not good enough” does not come from God. Instead, it is time to recognize our God given strength and resilience. Let’s harness that potential and truly believe in ourselves, for we are meant to soar to heights far beyond what we think is possible!
