It was an exciting week. I got to lead a special couple through a renewal of their vows. After having nearly 50 years of a difficult marriage, they got a fresh start. God snuck up on them and breathed new life into their struggling union. Now there’s something worth logging in my new Miracle Moments Journal!

At the start of 2022, I began a journal for all the extraordinary God moments I experience, and it’s already crammed full of reports. It’s been one of the healthiest things I’ve ever done because it’s forcing me to slow down and marvel at the amazing things God does each day. It’s helping me to see the world through Jesus-colored glasses.

Jesus said in Matthew 6, “Your eye is like a lamp that provides light for your body. When your eye is healthy, your whole body is filled with light. But when your eye is unhealthy, your whole body is filled with darkness. And if the light you think you have is actually darkness, how deep that darkness is!”

That’s an attention-getter! “If the light you think you have is actually darkness,” tells me there are people that think they are walking in the light but aren’t. If you are a fearful, negative person, you have an unhealthy eye. Even if you are a Christian, you are probably walking in darkness and don’t know it.

But God loves us too much to have us stumbling about without a nightlight. In Psalm 119:105, it says, “Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. It shows me the way wherein I should go.”  Restated, the promises of God are the truths given to light our way and direct our path.

When we stop being impressed by the size of our problems and start being impressed by the size of our God and His promises, we are walking in the light. When we are standing on those promises, we are rooted in truth and see things through a healthy eye.

There’s a song by Leanna Crawford called The Truth I’m Standing On that exemplifies a healthy eye. It goes like this, “I’m on the edge of fall apart, but somehow Your promises find my troubled heart. This is the truth I’m standing on. Even when all my strength is gone, You are faithful forever, and I know You’ll never let me fall. Right now, I’m choosing to believe, someday soon I’ll look back and see all the pain had a purpose. Your plan was perfect all along. Good, I believe You’re still good. Even when life’s not good, I will not lose this hope. The God who parts the sea promises He’s gonna make way for me. My rock, my shield, my firm foundation, I know I will not be shaken. You remind me where my help comes from. This is the truth I’m standing on.”

If that is how you view things, you have a healthy eye full of light and love. If not, well, now you know you are walking in darkness. Get the mud out of your eye and hold on to Jesus. He will be your rock, your shield, and your firm foundation. Let Him be the truth you are standing on.
